Stone Spring Elementary
PE: Gymnastics, Grades 3-4
Overview: The student will be able to perform a gymnastic sequence by using a combination of balance, travel, rolls, change of direction and weight transfer skills. They will be able to identify each skill that is performed.
SOL: PE 3.1 (d), 4.1 (c)
Time Required: Varies
Technology Used: iPod
Procedure: Each student will work with a partner and design a gymnastic sequence (can do the same sequence) which shows a balance, travel, change of direction and a weight transfer skill. Their partner will videotape the sequence using an ipod and then they will watch the video together and “assess” each movement to document that each required skill was performed.
Assessment: The videotape and the checklist assessment sheet will be the final assessment for the gymnastic unit.
Describe how the use of technology affected student learning: This activity allows each student to see themselves perform gymnastic’s skills.
