Overview: The class used iPads to create claymation videos to enter in a contest to demonstrate how public education and hands-on learning has a huge impact on a child’s future.
SOL: English 4.1 (a-e)
Time Required: Five 60-minute class periods
Technology Used: iPads, computer, internet, Stop Animator app
Procedure:
- Students were introduced to the “There’s No App for That” contest which asked students to tell how hands-on learning has impacted their education and may enhance their future.
- Students worked in groups to discuss their own learning what the largest impact came from. They decided on a topic and wrote a script.
- Students used clay to create their character. They also designed and built their backdrop.
- Using the Stop Animator app, students captured their claymation on the iPad. The app converted their pictures into a short video.
Assessment: Observation of student work and group discussion as well as the final video can be used for assessment.
Describe how the use of technology affected student learning: The students’ videos did an amazing job of demonstrating the impact of education on their future. They got really excited about reflecting on their own education The use of the iPads was engaging and students were excited to see their final video.
