Tech Playground for Parents
When: Saturday, March 17, 2012
Time: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
Where: Stone Spring Elementary School
Ever hear your child talk about using technology at school and wonder what they are doing? Here’s your chance to find out. HCPS teachers use a variety of technologies, such as the SMARTBoard, iPads, iPods, document cameras, clickers, and interactive websites to help students understand the concepts that they are teaching. We want to give you the opportunity to explore and play (yes, play is a way of learning!) with some of these technologies. On Saturday, March 17 from 9:00-12:00, we will be offering a Tech Playground for Parents at Stone Spring Elementary.
Sessions include:
- Making Music with iPads
Explore all kinds of ways to make music with iPads, from simple programs anyone can use to advanced tools for those with some musical training! - Interactive Art Museum
The interactive art museum fuses the SOLs from art, technology, and core subjects into an awesome art adventure! - Gallery Walk
Gallery walks are used to introduce different topics and engage prior knowledge using different images or artwork. Using the iPad2's camera and QR codes, the gallery walk became a multimedia activity. Students made observations and about each picture, not only from what they saw, but also from the Discovery Education videos they viewed. Their observations then led class discussion. - Secrets of the Internet (in Spanish)
The session, geared towards Spanish-speaking families, will give them the opportunity to explore the new technology and find out how they can stay up to date and informed as to what their children are doing online on the computer, on their phones, ipods, games systems and other technology. - My Digital Life
This is an online course targeted at 8th and 9th graders to help them understand the various components of digital citizenship, including cyberbullying, copyright, and appropriate use. - Get SMART!
See how the SMARTBoard can be used to add interactivity to any subject! - There's an App for That
Students (and teachers) love the iPads and iPods. Experience for yourself the ways that they engage learners. - Treasure Hunt - Weather Permitting
Explore the grounds of Stone Spring Elementary to locate hidden treasure with the help of GPS units. - The Playground
Come and play with some of the technology that is available to our students.
