A Resume on a Business Card? (HS Keyboarding, Grade 8, Greg Corder, THMS)
Students created a resume on Google Docs and a business card using online MS templates. They then created a QR code linking to the resume and placed it on the business card.  They shared their cards with members of their class who could scan the QR code to read their resume.  View Video

Art Styles Posters (Art, Grade 5, Laura Thompson, THMS)
Students used the internet to research an art style and then chose information to share by making a QR code for it.  They created posters using pictures and QR codes which were then displayed in the hall.  Students scanned the QR codes with an iPad to learn about the different art styles. View Video

Digital Storytelling (Language Arts, Kindergarten, Katie Meyer, Smithland Elementary)
After Reading The Mitten, by Jan Brett, students created their own retelling of this classic story using any winter clothing they wanted. After writing and illustrating the book, students read their book into the Photo Story software and presented it to their classmates and parents at an "Author's Party." View Video

Famous Americans on the Big Screen (Social Studies, K-3, Norris Bunn, Smithland Elementary)
Students worked to groups to write about a famous American that they had studied.  Each group generated a report that covered the beginning, middle, and end of their subject's life and highlighted the subject major contributions.  They used green screen technology to record the report infront of a picture of their famous American. View Video

Gymnastics: Watch Me! (PE, Grades 3-4, Alice Minnis & Michael King, Stone Spring Elementary)
3rd and 4th grade students at Stone Spring worked with a partner to design a gymnastic sequence which showed a balance, travel, change of direction and a weight transfer skill. Their partner videotaped the sequence using an iPod and then they watched the video together and "assessed" each movement to document that each required skill was performed. View Video

Interactive Art Museum (Art, Grades PK-4, Kate Nesmith, Stone Spring Elementary)
With a partner, students walked through the halls of the school, scanning QR codes with an iPod to learn about famous artworks from around the world.  After watching a short informational video, students followed a set of directions to complete either a technology or fine art activity to review, produce or hybridize concepts they learned in the video. View Video

Music with iPads (Music, Grades 1-4, Aubrey Helmuth Miller, Smithland Elementary
Students will rotate through stations where they interact on iPads in three ways: writing and performing rhythms, reading simple melodies, and experimenting with instrument sounds. They will also have the opportunity to explore music apps at their own pace. View Video

Pedometers Make Cents! (PE, Grades 9-10, Amy Wheeler, HHS)
Students wear and record pedometer data each PE class.  They use the data to create a spreadsheet that calculates totals.  At the end of the year, students are able to see how many steps they've taken, how many miles they've walked, and how many hours they've been active over the school year.  They also earn "$1" (PE Money) for each step accumulated earned to work through a word problem which includes monthly bills and scenarios that require money to solve.  Hopefully students have made enough of an investment in themselves and earned enough money to pay for the different real-life scenarios they're facing in the word problem. View Video

SMART Board Area and Perimeter (Math, Grade 3, Stephanie Van Norwick, Smithland Elementary)
Students used square units and half square units to create polygons and then used digital cameras to take photographs of their polygons. They used their photographs with the marker tool on the SMART Board to calculate area  and perimeter.  This was modeled with the whole case and then used as a learning station for small groups. View Video

SMART Board Word Study Sorts Correlated to Differentiated Instruction (Language Arts, Grades 1-2, Betty Simensen, Smithland Elementary)
After the Differentiated Instruction lesson, students sorted, read and wrote their Word Study words and then sorted the words using the matching SMART Board sort.  Students read the words while sorting the words and matching pictures. View Video

Technology-enhanced Third Grade SOL Practice (Math and Science, Grade 3, Kate Dougherty, Stone Spring Elementary)
The teacher models the use of the technology-enhanced questions and students interact with the board to review a variety of math skills and science concepts.  This is a great way to review key concepts and It can also used be as a teaching tool for technology-enhanced questions that students may encounter on the SOL test. View Video

The class used iPads to create claymation videos to enter in a contest to demonstrate how public education and hands-on learning has a huge impact on a child’s future. View Video

Using QR Codes to Enhance Comprehension in a Novel (Language Arts, Grade 6, April Detamore, THMS)
To better comprehend difficult medical terminology in the realistic fiction novel, "Drums, Girls and Dangerous Pie,"  students researched the stages of grieving using IPads.  The research was then used to generate QR-coded bookmarks to help future readers of the novel better understand certain events as they read. View Video

Voice-Over Unit (Performance Class, Grade 8, Michael Strawderman, Thomas Harrison Middle
Through a series of  sessions on vocal training and  script interpretation, each student will  produce four short voice-over recordings using the Garageband application.  Once the recordings have been edited they will create their very own demo CD and submit it for grading. View Video
