iPods and iPads offer a variety of ways to engage students in learning. Thousands of apps are available to download, many of them are free. iPods and iPads can also be used to capture images and record narration which students can create slide shows and presentations. The Flip video camera is an inexpensive, easy-to-use video camera that lets students capture up to 30 minutes of video. The camera connects directly to your computer through a usb connection and you can download the video directly or bring it into Movie Maker (PC) or iMovie (Mac) for editing. Digital cameras are available for teachers and students to capture important events. Pictures can be downloaded to the computer to be printed or included in slide presentations. Photostory (free download from Microsoft) is an easy way to create a video with your digital pictures.

The SMARTBoard™ interactive whiteboard connects to your computer and multimedia projector to display whatever is on your computer screen. You can then use the touch-sensitive display to control computer applications or interact with educational software or web sites. You can write notes in digital ink and save your work to share later. This can be a great way to share class notes with students who are absent or to help students who have difficulty keeping up with the notes in class.


Discovery Educational Streaming
offers an extensive library of video content especially designed for K-12 education. Search by subject, curriculum area, or SOL to locate a video to enhance your instruction. Thousands of videos are available. You can stream the video or download it to use anytime with your class. unitedstreaming also offers a library of images, clipart, a teacher resource center with ideas for integration and lesson plans, and a quiz center.

Personal Response System (PRS) lets students use the wireless transmitters to answer questions. Responsesare recorded and results are instantly graphed and displayed. Teachers can quickly assess students' understanding of concepts or gauge prior knowledge to plan for instruction. These are great with interactive games like Jeopardy or the Millionaire game. Document cameras
allow you to project documents and 3-D objects for easy viewing in the classroom. Many schools have a document camera that attaches to a multimedia projector. You can detach the camera to position it from different angles or distances from the object or document.Other document cameras, like the Dukane, offer additional features, such as the ability to capture images and transfer them to a computer. You can take a snapshot of your projection and save it to your computer. This is a great way to document a demonstration.
