Elementary Counseling Program
1. School counselors consult and collaborate with school personnel to best meet the social, emotional, and educational needs of students.
2. School counselors consult with parents to understand the whole child and to develop a positive school-to-home relationship that best meets the needs of the child.
3. School counselors consult with community agencies to ensure that a team approach is developed and to provide a full range of available services to children and families. Agencies that the school counselor consult with include: Department of Social Services, Harrisonburg-Rockingham Community Services Board, Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, Harrisonburg Interagency Team, counselors in private practice, local health care providers, and any other agency needed to provide appropriate services to children.
4. School counselors meet weekly, and as needed, with building administrators to ensure open communication of children's needs and to ensure the most effective level of service delivery is provided.
